Guitars & Effects

A bit about the kit I use:

Depending on where I find myself, my live setup is generally a selection of two electric guitars from the following collection. I use a Line6 X3 Live DI to the desk and the live output to a a pair of powered monitors for backline. Studio work is accomplished using guitars as the sound/ my mood requires, and Line6 X3 Live DI t the desk.

JP and StJ - The start of a great friendship and incredible tone relationship...

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that a day would come when I am endorsing a product that I am just totally nuts about!

In the few days that I had spending time with my monster tone machines before sadly having to leave both of them in South Africa I discovered the following:

Live - They ROCK! The Soundman at Rumours commented "Two amps?" I replied: "Yes, I play stereo, you can mic one, I'll just crank them both" ;-) Needless to say, cranking was not required, these things are LOUD! Volumes set to just where the sound kicks in proved quite enough for the small venue, hence the addition of the 2 J le Roux attenuators that allows for the main amps to be turned up to get the real tone of them valves.

  • Tone - JP has got the build and design so sorted! The tone controls (shared between the 3 Channels) proved to be outstanding. Dialling in a nice warm, yet crisp tone on the Clean, transfers into the same being transferred to the Crunch and Lead Channels providing for unbelievable tone on all 3 Channels.
  • You may wonder why I need two of them, well... The live options are endless, I can run one wet one dry, one Clean one Crunch, one Crunch one Lead etc. which results in the most amazing spread of live sound.
  • I have used the two monsters recording the Desert rain Album. WoW!!! The results speak for themselves, I'm a happy dude! I'm currently working on getting some flight cases made that I could bring one of them to Saudi Arabia with me on my next trip!
  • The matching lightwight Celestion Century Vintage loaded 2x12 cabs brings out the most from the heads, tight, rocking, pure valve tone!
  • The attenuators tame the volume without killing the tone, fantastic!
  • Lastly, these things not only look killer, they sound killer too!
